This report analyses how local residents on the eroding Holderness coastline, in East Riding of Yorkshire in the northeast of England, make sense of their housing situation, articulate their sense of home, and navigate the policy context. The Holderness coastline is known to be one of the fastest eroding coastlines in the UK and across Europe. While this coastline has been a longstanding site of erosion, it has drawn renewed attention with the impacts of climate change including rising sea levels. In 2022, East Riding of Yorkshire was awarded funding as part of the Environment Agency’s Coastal Transition Acceleration Programme in order to pilot new approaches to erosion.
