Biography

Professor Mark Stephens Co-Investigator at the UK Collaborative Centre for Housing Evidence and Ian Mctaggart Chair in Land, Property and Urban Studies at the University of Glasgow.

In his role with CaCHE, Mark is leading the ‘Wider Drivers’ theme that links housing to poverty, neighbourhood change, educational and health outcomes. The bulk of his research is on how whole housing systems operate, particularly from an international perspective, and the relationship between housing and poverty.

Mark is currently leading the UK Housing Review, is a member of the European Network for Housing Research Co-ordination Committee, and the Australia Housing and Urban Research Institute (AHURI) peer review panel.

Previously he was Professor of Public Policy and Director of The Urban Institute at Heriot-Watt University, Lead Panel Member of the Department for Communities and Local Government Expert Panel on Housing and Surveys Analysis and has conducted research and consultancy for a range of organisations including UN Habitat, UN-ECE, Council of Europe Development Bank, European Commission and European Parliament.
