SUMMARY:Housing Matters: How Did We Get Here and Where Are We Going?
DESCRIPTION:Since conception the UK Collaborative Centre for Housing Evidence (CaCHE) has acted as a platform to facilitate evidence-based housing research and in this final year of our ESRC funding\, we look to celebrate this through providing a forum for academics\, policymakers and practitioners to come together to discuss how housing can move forward during turbulent times. \nRegistration has now closed. Any queries can be directed to cache-conference@glasgow.ac.uk \nFirst panel announcement –\n“The people of this county have had enough of experts”: The use of evidence and research in housing policy\nWe are delighted to share details on one of our three plenary sessions at our September conference. “The people of this country have had enough of experts”: The use of evidence and research in housing policy\, chaired by Prof Alex Marsh\, takes perspectives from academia\, politics and practice on how evidence and research can and has been used to influence housing policy and how the sector can continue to work together in the future. This session features speakers Prof Kezia Dugdale\, Prof Susan J Smith and Laurie Macfarlane. \nSpeakers\nProfessor Kezia Dugdale\, Associate Director\, Centre for Public Policy \nProf Kezia Dugdale is Associate Director at the Centre for Public Policy and Chair of Stonewall. She leads the Centre’s community and external engagement\, providing an important bridge between the University of Glasgow\, policymakers and the communities they serve. Kezia is the former Leader of Scottish Labour\, served as an MSP\, previous Director of the John Smith Centre and recently finished her tenure as Chair of Shelter Scotland. \nProfessor Susan J. Smith\, President\, British Academy   \nProf Susan J. Smith is the President of the British Academy – the national academy for the Humanities and Social Science – and Honorary Professor of Social and Economic Geography at the University of Cambridge. She is known for her contributions to social and economic geography and for her collaborative interdisciplinary research on the long run links between housing and economic inequality. \nLaurie Macfarlane\, Co-Director\, Future Economy Scotland \nLaurie Macfarlane is Co-Director at Future Economy Scotland and a Fellow at the UCL Institute for Innovation and Public Purpose (IIPP). He is also the co-author of the critically acclaimed book ‘Rethinking the Economics of Land and Housing’. \nChair\nProfessor Alex Marsh\, Professor of Public Policy\, University of Bristol  \nProf Alex Marsh is a Co-Investigator for the UK Collaborative Centre for Housing Evidence (CaCHE) and Professor of Public Policy at the University of Bristol. Alex is the lead for the housing and systems theme within CaCHE. Much of his research is on the rental sectors in the UK.
