Policy approaches for improving affordability
This report, by Professor Geoff Meen, addresses one of the most important debates in housing today concerning the roles of supply shortages and “over-consumption” in explaining affordability problems in the UK.
Section 1 seeks to understand what drives changes in house prices and rents over time. Section 2 then interrogates the effectiveness of different policy options in improving affordability.
This paper was published alongside the report, How should affordability be measured?.
