Home - What We Do - Our Networks -
The Australia-UK Housing Network is a collaborative initiative bringing together leading academics, policymakers, and housing professionals from Australia and the UK. Our mission is to address shared housing challenges through cross-country dialogue, research, and policy innovation.
Both Australia and the UK face pressing issues in their housing sectors—rising property prices, an expanding private rental market, and the need for improved housing standards. While these challenges are common, each country has developed distinct approaches and solutions.

By leveraging these differences, the Network aims to foster mutual learning, enabling members to develop innovative strategies that address both long-standing issues like housing affordability and more immediate concerns such as the cost-of-living crisis and rising mortgage rates.
The Network serves as an independent platform where members can explore housing issues and seek solutions collaboratively. CaCHE will act as the Network’s secretariat, providing organisational support and coordination.

Assisting Home Ownership
Australia-UK Housing Research Network Event, 27th November 2025
Home ownership affordability is a growing policy concern internationally, with implications for intergenerational and socio-spatial equity and labour market functioning. While there is renewed and growing interest from governments in expanding access to homeownership, particularly through equity sharing and shared ownership schemes, these approaches are not new. Intermediate home ownership schemes have long operated in parts of the UK and Australia, with varied program designs, outcomes, and longevity offering valuable opportunities for comparative analysis and learning.
